Why Christians Should Pursue, Not Fear, Philosophy
This class will be an introduction to and defense of the Christian study of philosophy. The last fifteen years have seen a surge of writings in “New Atheism.” As a teacher, a member this congregation, and a parent, I have witnessed the devastating effect that popular atheistic philosophy can have on a Christian with no philosophical training and no sense of where to find Christian philosophical texts. In response, I am in the process of writing a book for Zondervan Press on this topic. In this class, we will work through some drafts of the early chapters of this book, specifically:
(1) What is Christian philosophy? (Why does it matter?)
(2) The Challenge of Relativism
(3) Reasonable, Consistent Beliefs
(4) Objection: Isn’t the Bible Enough?

(MORE) COMMONLY MISUNDERSTOOD VERSES OF THE BIBLE
“The platypus…love…Dr. Pepper.” These aren’t the only things that have been misunderstood over time. Scripture is full of verses used in confusing ways by the church and society. This discussion-led Bible study will examine one or two popular verses each week and how they are often misinterpreted. Using context, we’ll reexamine the original intent and how this might matter in our own lives. This is a particularly great class to bring a friend who has a curiosity about Christianity and its sacred text or for anyone wanting to be a better Bible reader.
